I believe that these people should fully own up to what they are doing... they are killing a baby.
However, I am firmly pro-choice.
I worked in the neonatal ICU for a little bit (not primary caregiver because I was not specially trained... I was there to help) and I saw things that would turn anti-abortionist's hair white.
I have seen the results of mothers who delivered on various drugs, of mothers who delivered severly and painfully deformed foetuses, etc.
I have seen the result of a child born to a mother who does not want that child and abuses them for the length of the child's care. Or, the unwanted child winding up in the foster system which is just as bad.
I do not think a mother who knows she cannot tend the child properly, a mother who does not want the child, a mother whose life is in danger by carrying that child, or a mother who has been raped and impregnated should be forced to give birth to that child.
I do not believe a severely and long term drug addicted mother should give birth to a child AT ALL. Go talk to someone who works in a neonatal ICU and ask about the birth defects of these children and watching them (newborns) go through full drug (often more than one) withdrawal. Go look at the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome babies.
Go do some research into the future developmental defects of a drug-born child and go do some reading on child abuse.
---------------
Dear AdoreHim:
I did not say it is murder. Do NOT put words in my mouth.
Go to that neonatal ICU and tell me my beliefs are wrong. Not just look in the door for a minute... go in and watch for a few shifts, watch those babies suffer, read some charts, read WHY those infants are in that neonatal ICU and their prognosis, long term and short term. Do your research while you are at it as to the lifetime affects of drug abuse in mothers, the long term affects of not only debilitating but agonizing birth defects... do it all. Then do some REAL reading into child abuse and unwanted children.
Then come back and tell me this.

The same reason they kill or hurt animals. They are selfish, ignorant, self-absorbed people that don't feel that anything not human and self-functioning (not like a fetus that shares it's mother's blood, food, and so on), is important. They are just 'things' to be treated as whatever. The mother is more important than the fetus, as she is 'real'. The fetus, sharing it's mother's blood, is considered something of a parasite, until it is born. And some poor souls seem to think that way AFTER it is born.
edit to add,.. littleminnie, sorry to inform you, but a baby is a baby a lot earlier than that. The embryo, has multiplied to more than 250 cells by Day 6 of development. Cells are already specializing, with the outer layer of the fertilized egg becoming the nervous system, skin, and hair. The inner layer will be the breathing and digestive organs. The middle layer will be the skeleton, muscles, circulatory system, kidneys, and sex organs. Home pregnancy tests are often positive now.
So, fyi, by DAY 6 that fetus is a baby.
Edit again to add, I do agree with Just a Guy for the most part, but I feel that abortions should not be used as a form of birth control, as many do, and I also feel that if a woman gets an abortion, and it is not a matter of rape or the woman's health, she should be forced to get her tubes tied until she can prove that she is able to care for a child, on all levels, including love.

Until it can survive without being attached to another being, its nothing more than a parasite.
Let me explain what a parasite does. It occupies space in the body and causes it to behave abnormally, often to its detriment. It absorbs nutrients that its host needs to survive.
Now lets think about what a fetus does...
It occupies space in the hosts body. It absorbs nutrients that the host needs. It physically and mentally impaires its host by screwing with the hormones of the body, often causing morning sickness that makes the host lose many more nutrients it needs. In later stages, it makes its host vulnerable to attack by making it most difficult to move.
Some people are willing to take that for the end result but you HAVE NO RIGHT to ask an 8 year old thats been raped by her father to carry a fetus for 9 months and give birth because it would kill her, just because you don't like the idea of ending the life of the thing thats acting as a parasite to her body when the girl has already been through enough trauma. You HAVE NO RIGHT to ask a woman thats been raped to give birth after the extreme mental trauma. You have NO RIGHT to ask a woman to give birth to a developmentally retarded child (its cruel to the child and the mother).
I'm sorry but the ALREADY EXISTING life MUST take precedence over the POTENTIAL life thats developing in a womans womb.
Abortion exists for a reason. Not because its fun or acceptable. Not because it doesn't leave scars. It does. But sometimes the alternative is much worse.
Not to mention that there is 6.5 BILLION people on this planet. There will be 7 BILLION in the next 50 years because people can't keep their pants up.
People WILL continue to have sex whether you like it or not because people are people and they've always been doing it despite the advent of your religion.
We have ENOUGH PEOPLE on this planet.
Your high morals have no place in a world that doesn't listen to them anyway. People not screwing each other like jackrabbits is a great idea but it doesn't happen. And I deal with the real, not 'what should be".

Abortion is a tricky subject. As a prochoicer myself I believe that no one else should tell me what to do in my womb, especially those who know nothing of the situation. We say having an abortion is killing a baby begings with the definition of human. How do we define what human is? We generally define being human(in the context of seperating ourselves from animals) is our ability to reason. With a fetus is cant reason on the level that we mean when we say human. Yes it is forming into a human but while still forming it is not yet one(some might call this splitting hairs).
I dont think the subject of abortion will ever truly be "solved" because there will always be opposite sides arguing, claiming that they are both correct.

People who have abortions don't do it because they enjoy killing babies, no matter what you may have heard. It is always a difficult decision and one that should not be judged by someone who has never found herself in that situation. If a woman uses birth control and condoms but they fail and she still gets pregnant, is she to be forced to become a mother when she tried so hard to prevent it? What about a woman who was raped? A child who becomes pregnant? Some would like to relegate women to the role of broodmares whose only duty is to procreate again and again with no say in what happens to their bodies.
If you believe that a fetus has a soul and is fully aware from the moment of conception, that's all fine and dandy. Don't have an abortion. But don't try to push your religious views on others.
If you insist on the fact that the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill", take a moment to ponder that statement further. It doesn't say "Thou shalt not kill people of the same religion as you". It doesn't say "Thou shalt not kill human beings". It doesn't say "Thou shalt not kill except in cases of self-defense". Do you eat meat? You are killing something. Would you defend yourself if you were attacked even if it meant killing your attacker? That's killing. What about all the wars that have been started over religion? Killing, again. Unless you can free your religion from all traces of hypocracy which, trust me, you can't, don't use it as the standard against which you measure your fellow man.

maybe but some people only say that is really a baby when it is born, others disagree some say it is a life form at conception, some say when the heart starts to beat and some say when the organs start to form.you could say as you have put maybe its to stop them feeling so attatched to the baby if they really want the abortion.
i think its all a matter of opinion and im my opinion abortion is ok if there is a medical reason for example if the mother will die if she has the baby but if it is for a social reason like the baby will get in the way of a career then it is not acceptable.
its all down to the individual person as i have said before on where that person thinks that life begins and really it is down to the person on what they belive

I think that a fetus is a baby. Just think about it. Most of the time when women find out they are pregnant the baby already has a heart beat. And personal if a heart is beating it is alive. Yes it can't live on it's own, when most abortions are preformed but life is life. I agree with you. If a court of law says it's a life and morally it's a life, it's a life.People have to have rational thinking and that's there opinion. But it don't mean it's right.

Does that mean we can start calling it Doctor Toddler because we know it's going to Stanford, just like pa and papa. No, it's a fetus until it stops being a fetus, it doesn't matter what you claim to know about it's future. Get over it.

Killing a baby (as in a child which was born 6 months ago) is not the same as killing an embryo which is 6 weeks from conception. You can call it the same thing, in order to try to support an argument, but it's not the same thing.

Let's stay with the truth. Abortion is killing a potential. A fetus is not a baby, it is a potential human.
But it is true that none of us would be here if we'd been aborted during the fetal stage.
