Just tell your friend it's a "date" (you and him) and that you and your friend can go out together another time.
He could be understanding of the situation and just tolerate your friend, and you two should plan on making another date.
Or if you can find your friend a date, you could double date.

The boyfriend of course....
Your actually going to deny your BF who you knew for longest time over a guy; you prolly wont be with this guy longer than a month or two anywaz?
Ditch the guy always. Besides what kind of guy is he to say "can we ditch your friend"; sounds like a rapist to me; if he wanted the date to be just you two, then he should have said that to begin with. Hes a looser, drop him.

Sweetheart, maybe you should explain to your friend that this is a time you want alone with your beau. Just tell her you want this time for just the two of you and maybe you could do something together later this week.

I would spend time with them both separately on that day. Your friend will probably be there longer than he will. I would spend time with my friend first and tell him/her are not going to the movies anymore. Make up an excuse tell him/her that your boyfriend has to work or something. What would it accomplish to hurt your friend's feeling? FOR PETE'S SAKE DON'T EXCEPT AN INVITATION TO HANG OUT LATER THAT DAY!
