Having competed with both sexes in everything from a 3K to a marathon to an Iron distance triathlon, I can honestly say that I see no difference, there are all types of both sexes. Some people are incredibly hardcore and some are very relaxed and just having fun. Some are pleasant and some are not. Some are strong and some are wimpy. Some are "racing" and some are "participating". It has nothing to do with gender. At least that's what I have observed.

I know on my varsity team, the guys are very competitive and a lot of them refuse to help a fellow team member out unless explicitly asked to do so. The girls on the other hand always are encouraging each other. They warm up together, they run together and they pace each other during workouts. It seems like the girls make practice fun for each other while the guys take everything to seriously. The really shows on relays. and btw...towards the end of the season, since the guys try to be so competitive with each other, half of our guys are nursing injuries from overdoing it at practice.

I think the women are more stern, higher in their discipline, and generally just a whole lot more devoted to the sport.

I am SURE of the difference between women runners and male leprechauns;
The leprechauns are cunning runts.

i think women runners are more definite in their goal, easier to work with, and work harder, rarely give up. i've noticed that men give in easier. i think it's in the fact that women are faced to lower goals than male runners by the world. in which, encourages the female runners to prove themselves to everyone. i also think female runners are stronger not physically but mentally, that's why they don't give up and work harder at most times.

I find it harder to get women runners to meet me in the city park bathroom after the race.
