My dog keeps knocking over the trash and eating the diapers! I have put them in the little no smell bags and she still gets them. I don't know what else to do... I don't want to get rid of her but I can't have that smell in my house! Any suggestions????

I was going to get a diaper genie but I have been told the diapers get hung up it there somehow and it still smells.... I had tried putting the diaper trash can up high but IG's are VERY good jumpers. I have a friend who is 6'0 and she can jump to eye level with him when she wants too. As far as fabricating a story...No sorry... if I wanted to get rid of my dog I would have just gotten rid of her... I wouldn't have wasted my time coming on here to ask a question! I LOVE my dog but I can't let her kiss on me when she open her mouth and there is crap on her tongue!

Get a 'diaper trash can' that has a 'locking lid' on it that your dog can't 'get into' ... it may be a bit 'expensive' but you will notice the 'improved smell' in your house immediately, especially if you get a locking trash can that also 'locks in bad odors.' The little 'no smell bags' don't work very well to keep a 'dog' away, because dog's noses are 'more powerful' than human noses ... but you need to 'keep the dog' and your baby, too ... and you also should think about 'emptying the trash' more frequently, so there is less 'odor buildup' around the trash can for the dog's nose to 'detect.' I know that it seems 'icky' to humans, but that baby poop and pee smell very 'tasty' to your dog ... and they also 'taste good' too. Also, if you could put the new trash can in a place where your dog can't 'knock it over' or can find a way to 'fasten it in place' that you can just 'release' when you want to empty the trash, you should soon be a 'happy camper' at home again.

mmm delicious. You need to get a trash can (kinda like the ones you put outside for the garbage men) with the tight seeling lid, so that even if the dog does knock it over it wont be able to get the lid off. You could also try finding a cubboard to keep the trash in, in which the dog cant get into it. The pantry should work just as well. As a last resort you can get an electric fence thing (there are cheap ones that go about fifteen feet in all directions and just corner off part of the kitchen - you will have to teach the dog that it will get shocked if it goes near it, which some may see as in humane but when my dogs ate my cats kitty litter it became a neccessity...)

As I see it, you really have three options.
1. Make it so she can't tip it.
Stick the garbage can to the floor (any employee at a store like Lowe’s can recommend something non-damaging to your floor), or tie-wrap it to something nearby (drill a few holes in it and attach it to something close). You can even just place a cinder block or sand bag at the bottom of your garbage can (they are inexpensive). Italian Greyhounds are small, so I don't think she'd be able to tip that kind of weight. Just placing a block or sand bag at the bottom is probably the easiest of all methods. Make it a heavy one. If she can’t tip it, she can’t get to the diapers.
2. Make it so she no longer wants to eat them.
There is also the option of spraying the bag your baby’s diapers are placed in, or the diapers themselves if necessary, VERY liberally with Bitter Apple spray (you can find it in any pet store. It’s made specifically to make pets stop chewing on things and works great for most dogs). The behavior should go away within a few days once she realizes that they taste terrible.
3. Train her to stop.
Those two methods are shortcuts, of course, and the best thing to do would be to train her not to go after them anymore. However, this may not be an option, since it will require a lot of time and patience. Try placing a diaper in the can. Let her see you do it. Then go out of sight, and wait for her to go for the diaper. At this point, shake a can with rocks in it loudly until she back off (something like a coffee can. Most dogs hate this). Do it again and again until she realizes that going for the diapers brings the rock can out. After a while, the behavior should stop.
That’s all I can think of. Good luck!

Try a diaper genie...i don't think the dog would be able to get them then...just make sure to empty it on trash day then they can go off with the garbage man and not in your dogs stomach...lol

Keep the dirty diapers in a container the dog can't get into (like a diaper genie), and make sure you are dumping the solid waste into the toilet, which you are supposed to do anyway, before disposing of them.

Here is a sure cure for your problem
mix in a little chilly powder in your child's
diapers (used ones that is) once your Gray hound
gets a taste of that it will surely stop doing it.
It may take one or tow times but once your dog
has got a taste of it and a smell of it you will only
have to sprinkle some chilly powder on the bag they are in.
Good luck !

I would get a diaper Genie. They have the no smell bags, don't cost very much and have a lid that locks down so your dog can't get to it.
