I have a four year old (unaltered) female Shetlandsheepdog (sheltie). She is as sweet as can be and adorable to. My thing sis , she is constatly chewing on my hair or my wifes hair. She'll chew on my goatee, and the hiar on my head. Its cute but sometimes annoying. I asked several vets and all i got was she is just being playful. I once thought it was cause of dry scalp, but I shave my head and she'll jump straight to the goatee and my wifes hair. If anyone can tell me why it'd be great

"its cute but sometimes annoying." You let your dog do it. If you are going to have rules, you need to be consistant with them. Letting her do it sometimes and then scolding for it at other times can be confusing for a dog. Sometimes people just overlook the simplist answers.

I have no clue why she does it, but I have long hair, and my pup wanted to chew it often when I first got her. However, I knew I didn’t want to go the next 12+ years with spit in my hair and my dog eyeing my head like it was a snack, so I discouraged the behavior from day one, and now she’s reached the point where she’s not interested in it anymore.

If it bothers you, teach your sheltie not to do it like you would teach her not to do anything.

It just happens that she likes hair for some reason. The problem is not that she likes hair but that you are allowing her to continue a behavior you don't like.

With any dong, the owner and family must be the "alpha" members and assert yourselves. Do not allow her to chew your hair and she won't do it anymore.

Get into a good dog obience class so you can learn to be assertive with your dog correctly.

She love you and is grooming you. The only way to stop her is to Stop her all together. She won't that it is OK sometimes to do this. When she starts her grooming process, set her away from you and in a stern voice say NO. It may take a while because she thinks you want her to do it. Good Luck

Horses sometimes do the same thing, chew on hair, it's a mineral thing, try supplementing her diet with minerals and see if that doesn't do the trick.

Divert her attention to some chew toys. She need to realize that it's not ok to do that. It's bad manners. If you don't correct bad manners it becomes a habit. Make the correction now before it gets worst.

maybe she has some kind of mineral deficiency that drives her to eat hair.
or not.
I'm not a vet so that would be my only brilliant guess, sorry.

Cause you allow it and she maybe finds it comforting.. Like sucking a blanket etc.
