It is the same reason many of our brothers and sisters start to tremble with wrath when the word homosexuality is mentioned. We have the Holy Spirit within us who teaches us all things. We also have the flesh. (Romans 6,7,8) Many people will get them confused and project their fleshly prejudice onto their faith I.E. Smoking, Drinking, Homosexuality. They will condemn these but if I do not honor my mother and father or steal something then that's ok. Everyone does it you know.
I am afraid that is hypocrisy my brother. I have been guilty of it too.

we dont condemn drinking, we condemn getting drunk. There is a differenc.

Remember the alcohol they had in the times of the Bible was not as strong as the ones u get today. So ud have to drink alomst twice as much to get drunk as u do today. Its only about 200 years ago, or a bit more that ppl started making such strong forms of alchol.

So ye, its ok and can even b gd for u to drink a bit of wine now and again, but getting drunk is the bad thing.

There is nothing wrong with having a drink of alcohol, even the scriptures show that wine makes the heart of man rejoice (Psalms 104:15).
It is the over indulgence in it that is condemned. (Proverbs 23:30)

I don't understand either. My Catholic church is fine with drinking wine as long as you do it in a moderate way. But many Baptists and Jehovah's witnesses look at alcohol as if was a sin. Jesus drank alcohol at the wedding in Cannan and he never condemned drinking. I don't know where this people get off.

Many religions have made RULES of their own and many because of bad results form an opinion condeming alochol drinking altogether. However the Bible itself nowhere condems alochol comsumption, but does as in other things condems over comsumption as in food, play, work, and even suggests that man must not live on bread alone.Recently a woman was reported to have died because of consuming too much water,in a water drinking contest. Many have had their lifestyles ruined because of over comsumption of food.Over indulgence in shoveling snow can be hard on your heart and back ,same can be said about sex etc.Point made !!!----NOTE-- The guy before me( Cynical ) just told a lie when he/she said J W's consider drinking alochol a sin, living in ignorance must be blissful.

Well, I'm not sure that "most Christians condemn drinking."

I know plenty of Christians that like various kinds of alcoholic beverages and they lead perfectly nomal lives as mothers, fathers, parents, etc., fulfilling their obligations to family, friends and employers.

I think that there are a lot of fundamentalists that have a basic problem with any kind of "pleasure of the flesh," and they have my sympathy...for about 10 seconds.

Thats not true. Christians do not condemn drink. What they condemn is drinking to get drunk. Wine is good...too much is bad.

great question, the wine that Jesus and other people back then drank was old wine. it didn't have any alcohol in it or anything else bad. Jesus tells us to not drink new wine, which does have alcohol in it etc. there's a maine difference.

"Most" Christians don't condem drinking (in moderation, of course). A few denominations do (personally, I think more out of tradition than anything else). And of course there are the hypocrites on the extreme right--but they aren't really Christians.

The term new wine was grape juice.

Jesus turned the water to new wine which was non-alcoholic grape juice.

Isa 65v8Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

A blessing is not found in the fermented old wine.
