I was accepted into my first choice college, but was not offered any scholarships or financial aid. No other school can offer me the same opportunities as this college, but I plan on becoming a journalist and will not have much money to pay off college loans. My dad (who is extremely conservative and feels it is his "duty" to pay for his children) said he will cover the cost of my education, but will be simultaneously paying my $40,000 tuition, my brother's $35,000 tuition, and my other brother's $30,000 tuition. I know he does not have the money for this, but have not found a single scholarship I am even elligble for! I have tried to convince him to let me take out the loans for my education, but he won't let me. I'm considering chagning schools simply because of the cost, but as I said I can't get the same opportunities anywhere else.

Any suggestions? And please, do not recommend Fastweb or any related sites, they have proved useless so far.

There are no local scholarships that are applicable to me (they are for high school seniors only) and I didn't earn the only two scholarships available at my local college.

I've already spent 2 years at a community college, any more classes I take there would just be a waste as far as earning my bachelors is concerned. They don't offer classes at a high enough level.

Have you looked at journalism-specific awards, grants, work-study programs, fellowships, and scholarships? Sometimes, the money comes from organizations that have little to do with the university itself.

Here are two sites, one with a grant, and another that lists journalism-related scholarships:

If you can't get scholarships or grants, don't forgo your education. Your dad knows the value of the investment.

Why don't you go to a Junior College and take out the loans there? They are a lot cheaper. Then after 2 years, you can transfer to a University and maybe by that time you'll be eligible for what you're looking for.

Good luck.... you sound like a great gal!

Try to get some local scholarships. I applied to 10 and got them all. Then went to a community college and get about all of them a semester. Well the reason why i chose the community was because it had better engineering programs but i plan to transfer to a four year later.
Anyways try some local scholarships if not go to the college ( if its in reach) financial aid office and talk to them about the different scholarships.

Join the military, go to war, and four to five years later you can go to school for free.
