Okay, here is what you need to ask, a small dog, one that will not get really big. Chihuaha's are good little dogs but often too small for older couples- often protective can be snappy- I would recommend for a calmer, more loving and good personality, either a shizhu (non shedding sweet dog) or a type of terrier (and a female often times are more calm than males). Anything too small is not good, tripping over them, stepping on them is easy to do, as smaller dogs like to hang around your feet a lot.
Poodle is also a good choice - miniature poodle- or any poodle mix breed.

A maltese. I have a little girl and she is so fun. She weighs about 4.5 pounds. They are on average between 4 and 6 pounds and love to be held. If I want to go somewhere she will just sit in the car and wait, she is sooo good. They also don't shed like short haired dogs.

There are many toy breeds available. Try Google and type in toy breed dogs. That will give you a way to research the different breeds for size, temperament, and other characteristics. Check with the local humane societies or search for local breeders if you prefer a puppy.

do a dog selector quiz. puppyfinder.com has one i think eukanuba has one and aninmalplanet.com has one like somebody mentioned.or you could just type in breed selector quiz in yahoo and there ya go.you can also go 2 akc.org if you are lookin for a purebred or just 2 c wut the breeds look like. go under toys and non sporting. most of those r 12 inches at the withers or shorter. or if you want 2 do a lot of work you could go through breed lists and look at the heights. one other thing you could do is just go 2 the local shelter and c the heights.then you could pik one out.hope that helps.

Yorkies! They have GREAT personalities and cute. My sister travels with her yorkie all the time. Her little love can fit into a purse carrier, how awesome is that? My brother-in-law loves the little one too. I thought he would have a hard time with it, he loves BIG manly dogs. The breed is number one in the United States.

there are lots of small dogs. pugs have great personalites. dauchunds are good to. in my expereince it would prbally be best to avoid chihuahuas. they are very cute, but can become one person dogs and not be very nice to others, including people in the same house-your parents probally wouldn't like that. I love yorkes, but you will have to stay on top of grooming. Poodles and bichons are nice to, but same thing about the grooming.

Why not go to the humane society in Newington. If you are close to that town. They have a new facility and have dogs of all shapes and sizes.
It's right off the Berlin Turnpike.

do no longer purchase any dogs it is marketed as being "teacup" those canines at the instant are not professional breeds and are very plenty in possibility for a myriad of genetic ailment. i might propose you flow with something labeled as "toy". Pomeranians are not getting plenty over 10lbs.
