We have 3 dogs and just got an 8 wk old heeler mix. And as most people are saying they should be put in a cage/crate for sleeping they actually like it, makes them feel safe and secure. You can buy a good size that both can sleep in at PetSmart for about $25.00. It's worth it! Then when you let them out and they start whining at the door. You must be consistent and tell them No, Stop Whining. As soon as they start. Even if you have to get out of bed. Don't Yell they'll just become frightened and whine more. You can't just ignore the bad behavior because they will never stop. With puppy training you have to be consistent. Saying and doing the same thing over and over and over. They need that they are looking for direction (pack leader) you may loose a little sleep for a few nights, but it works just after 2 1/2 wks our puppy is already potty trained and will not whine at the back door. The only thing that's going to stop this is you. Good Luck

They're puppies recently separated from their mother. Get a dog bed or use an old blanket in a box and they will probably cozy up in there. Sometimes a warm water bottle, like you might use on a muscle ache, put it under that old blanket in the box along with a small ticking clock (simulates the mothers heartbeat).
If this fails, maybe the puppies just need to go out and attend to their business!

We have a choclate lab and he did the same thing when he was young. I agree that you can't give into him now or it will go forever. Give them something of yours to sleep with..they will feel better with the scent. Are they caged? Sometimes they like the closeness of a cage as it makes them feel secure. My husband wanted to bring them to our bed and I said no way. Now, whenever we "treat" him to a night in our room, he doens't know how to handle himself and prefers to go back down to the kitchen. It's what he knows best and has learned. Whatever you do...be good to the little pups..they are so sweet!!!

Bring them in the house, buy a large crate and crate train them to sleep in it at night. Takes a little time, but is worth it.
If they are inside and whine to go out, take them out and make sure they potty and bring them back in and put them in their crate.

They need something with your scent on it...shirt that you wore all day or blanket you usually sleep with. Something you can live with not having back or that could be tore up.
