I worked as a volunteer outside the country for the year and did not have a salary of any kind. Is there some form I should send in that tells the IRS I'm not skipping out on my taxes, I just have nothing to report?

If you earned no income for the year 2006, then you don't have to file a return.

I've worked for the IRS before. If you did'nt work at all in 2006, then I don't think you have anything to worry about. The IRS only cares about people who owe them money. Look at a 1040 tax form, it will tell you that you don't need to file.

Judy is correct.
There is no requirement to file, but....
Being in the tax business for many years, I have seen taxpayers end up with problems later on for years unfiled, not as much from the IRS, but individual States.
You can create a -o- tax return for 2006, and keep it in your safe-deposit box, and/or file it. Also, you may decide to go to college in the States and a tax return is required for those years sometimes....

good luck & thanks for giving

IN today's current form of gov't...I may be mistaken but I think that if you made below 7K you do not have to file.
