IRS 1040 schedule A itemized deductions..under charitable donations (about 3 or 4 boxes down)..usually line 15 or 16 (I don't have it in front of me at the moment).

And yes, you should deduct it from your taxes, IT IS a charitable donation.

You need to use 1040 long form with Schedule A to file it, but it only applies if you are NOT taking the standard deduction. In most cases, the standard deduction is more than your personal contributions. Do both to make sure which is the higher one you should take.

Oh and as of tax year 2005, you are required to have proof of your contributions, for example a letter from the organization, a receipt or canceled checks.

On your tax form? I'm not sure. I've never deducted my tithings because I don't think it's right to do so. I am to tithe 10% without getting any of it back. And my tithing goes to my church, why should I be able to report that on my taxes? There still a separation of church and state, isn't there?

I just love this!!! Its been almost two years that I have been on Answer's, and not one person has mentioned tithing, not one, until "YOU!!!" Haleluhah!! Well, I tithe mine to a Christian foundation called: "Feed The Children" and its all ligitimate!! And they are a "Christian Organization" too!! One day after years of getting mail from these people my heart felt convicted that the church I used to give my tithe's too, were all well fed, and had all of their needs met, and here were "Homeless men women & children" that a "Wonderful Christian Organization was doing everything in thier power to get the "American People to open their eyes and see, how desperate this situation was" so I felt convicted to begin sending my tithe's to them instead, and God still blesses me, and my children!! So, its suppose to be givin' to whomever blesses you the most, with their sermon's, but this is up to you hun!! If you want to send it to the church you tend God will begin to Pour out Blessing's upon Blessing's in your Giving, and even when you just give an offering, when your heart is feeling convicte....But tithing is God's law!! We are robbing God of what He has blessed us with, our jobs, our income our car's , our children everything He blesses us with if we dont tithe!! But when we do, we are being obedient to God, and He will bless you according to His Riches & Glory by Christ Jesus, once you do, hun!!! And for asking this question on the World wide internet, too!!! Watch and see, His blessing just pour out into your life, hun!! Oh, and dont read any bad things people might say to you regarding this!!! Because satan will also attack you for asking this on the internet, and people on here can really be Fiscious, too!! But on your "Armour when you read, and if it start's off rude, dont even continue reading it!! You dont want all that negative energy to put you in sad spirit's, you know....... May God Richly Bless you, in your Tithing!!! And He will, hun!! Smile, and "You have a Wonderful day, for me!!"
