So why are you so quick to believe the Iranians? After all, their record of honesty in world affairs is something less than stellar....
And I doubt VERY seriously if the Iranians will put anybody on trial...they know that would bring both the Brits AND the Americans down on their head, this time with the full backing and cooperation of the United Nations. They say shout and scream all they want about how big and bad they are and how they're not afraid of anyone, but I guarantee you that once the world around them starts blowing up, they'll be screaming for mercy.

Well, they were in the Shaat al Arab... a disputed piece of inland waterway... the Coalition is tasked by the Iraqi government to ASSIST the Iraqi maritime forces in patrolling and securing that area.
I think if Tehran attempts to place these sailors / marines on "trail", they'll find themselves in deeper sanctions via the United Nations.
I STRONGLY doubt the Royal Marines were actually INSIDE current Iranian waters... any RHIB would be carrying a GPS to keep them OUTSIDE of Iranian waters.
I sailed and flew that area for 4 WestPac cruises between 1990 and 1999.

I wouldn't rush to judgement just yet. Iran is not exactly known for it's honesty in diplomatic affairs.
I hardly think that the Brits admitted to anything like that and if they did, I'm sure they can back it up with some kind of video or audio proof...
I wonder how much torture Iran did to these sailors and marines? I wonder why the international community hasn't berated Iran for their torture techniques and questioning whether the admission can be believed because of the torture?
Is there some hypocrisy, here?

They weren't in Iranian waters. They were in an area of Iraqi waters claimed by Iran. There's a lot of difference.
And if we found two Iranian dinghies in our waters, we wouldn't kidnap the sailors, we'd tell them that they were entering British waters and order them to leave.
The soldiers won't be facing any court of law. They'll be back in Blighty within a week.
