i have two rabbits a 9 month old male and a 6 month old female. Ihad the male rabbit neutered at christmas time. In their hutch there is a ramp which leads to a smaller hutch (it's quiet a big hutch.) inside. around it is a blanket for isolation. about a week ago she kept jumping up there and pulling the blanket up and around her. She has pulled lots of hay and somehow food up and everytime i pick her up to put her back on the normal levels she jumps back up? any ideas of what she is doing please and maybe why as i don't know what to do?

she could be having a false pregnancy her behaviour is typical of a female rabbit who would be giving birth shortly. if she is not pregnant depending on when you had your boy rabbit fixed then get her spayed you will get a nice friendly rabbit as female can become quite nasty if left unspayed. even tho you have had your male rabbit fixed a female rabbit even at six months can store sperm and release when they are ready to concieve. you could try taking her to the vet for a check am not sure if they can tell if rabbits are pregnant

Either she IS pregnant, (which is possible for even such a young rabbit as this) or she is having a false pregnancy.

Your female rabbit NEEDS to be spayed.

In false pregnancies, female rabbits will build a nest & pull the hair out from their chest & stomach to line that nest. They may even stop eating (as they would do normally the day before they give birth for real). This is very stressful for the rabbit as you can probably see.

Unspayed female rabbits have an over 80% chance of getting and dying from uterine or other reproductive cancers. That alone is reason enough to get her spayed.

When you get your rabbit spayed, it is important that the vet REMOVES the uterus and ovaries, not just ties the tubes. If they aren’t removed, the likelihood that she will get these cancers is still very, very high.

That's great you had the buck neutered, but why didn't you get the doe spayed too???

It is possible for the male to still ahve viable sperm in his system up to one month after neutering. Given the timeline, I doubt that's pregnant if he was neutered at Christmas, but your little girl bunny is maturing and is wanting to nest. She's making a comfortable home for her babies and that's why she is also pulling out her fur. It's time to get her spayed. I know it's expensive, but it's the best thing that you can do for your house rabbits is to have them fixed.

In a Cornell study in 2006, it was found that 80% of female rabbits who don't have a litter and are not spayed will get uterine cancer within 5 years of age. Please look into getting her spayed so that you have two happy and healthy bunnies!

The rabbit may be malting. I had a part angora rabbit which pulled his fur out once a year. It is best to double check with the vet that this is the case and he and advise you on how to remove the fur - if rabbits get hairballs they can't cough them up like cats do and can get very ill.

confident, rabbits ought to easily be fed end result and vegetables in very small parts and purely as an occasional handle. too plenty clean ingredients can shrink to rubble their digestive tracts. Too many people belive the memories that rabbits ought to have clean ingredients of their diets, that purely isn't real, there are various respected rabbit breeders who in no way supply their rabbits any form of treats and their rabbits are in the excellent option undertaking and well-being.

Well, I also have a very smart pet rabbit which is a boy. I think that she does not like the blanket. I think you should take it away. What I keep in my rabbit's cage is a litter box and a bowl for his food. Then, I let him enjoy fresh air. Hope this helps.

She is in heat and ready to mate. Female rabbits do this in preparation for taking care of young ones. Nothing to worry about, it will pass shortly.

Your rabbit might be getting broody. Its not easy for them having a sexy buck around and not being able to do anything with him to get little baby bunnies. She is probably wishing she was pregnant. Its usual behavour. They should get over it.

Sounds like she's nesting ,your male could have impregnated her after he was neutered and you should have been warned to keep the seperate for a while. :(
