There is no "cure" for stuttering (same thing as stammering) but people can become more fluent with help and practice. Some young children go through a phase of stuttering during language development and never have problems later in life. Check out the web site for The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org for a chart that helps determine if someone might have a lifelong stutter, ways to help at home, a referral list of speech therapist that specialize in treating stuttering. Public libraries have many of the Foundation's books and DVDs, too.

Yes, as someone that went to speech therapy until he was in fifth grade, I'm sure of it. It takes work and practice and not paying attention to stupid people (see above answer).
