its horrible considering how long we went around in M998s and there are LAVs out there. no armor is enough but at least it protects against small arms.

As a Marine, I don't think this question is either T/or F. Where you heard this statistic is irrelevant and probably inaccurate. The fact is, probably the most dangerous job or thing you can do in Iraq is convoy or be some sort of driver/truck driver. IED's (especially IED's in the road) kill more Soldiers or Marines than any one event in the middle east next to MOUT (Military Operation in Urban Terrain). In MOUT, you can expect as much as 70% casualties.

The lack of uparmor is not an issue any longer. It is against military policy for any vehicle to leave the FOB w/o uparmor.

I would say that that would be an exageration, 66%. But I am sure the %age is up there...IEDs are a huge threat, even w/ uparmor. Our Hummers were uparmored, but the gunner is left exposed.

That is not true although it is close...You have to realize that 90% of the ground transport for Americans in combat areas is in HVs. Would you prefer to ride in a VW????
How about everyone riding in main battle tanks. That would be about $1000 a mile for every idiot that could convince our government to let them go play. Our defenders would still get killed but it would take bigger bombs..
