Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
The seven deadly sins in the Christian tradition were first compiled by Pope Gregory I around the year 600. They are pride, covetousness, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth. Gregory also compiled a list of the seven virtues: faith, hope, charity, justice, prudence, temperance, and fortitude.

The 7 deadly sins are from Roman Catholic doctrine, not the Bible. As an Evangelical Christian, I disagree with their doctrine. I agree that these sins are deadly, but all sins are deadly. "The wages of sin is death." Rom 6.23 This includes all sin. GOD considers a man to be a sinner if he commits any sin. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all." James 2.10
The Catholic doctrine on venial sins vs deadly sins comes perhaps from a misinterpretation of 1 John 5.16+17
1Jo 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
1Jo 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
The Apostle John here is teaching about the first century Gnostic heretics. He was saying that these people were not really Christians. To reject Christ is to sin unto death. Jesus talked about men dying in their sins. In other words, to die without Christ is to perish eternally in hell.
When we interpret the Bible, we have to look at the whole counsel of GOD. We have to take the Bible as a whole. It is wrong to build a doctrine upon a verse or two taken out of context.
GOD bless you.

I don't know what the catholic church defines as "the seven deadly sins", but the Bible states that to sin against the Holy Spirit is the only sin that can't be forgiven. We should never reject the Holy Spirit, He leads us to God. Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments.

The seven deadly sins are:
1. Superbia Pride- Mark 7:22
2. Invidia Envy- Gal 5:21
3. Ira Anger- Gal 5:20 hatred, wrath.
4. Avaritia Avarice- Mark 7:22 thefts, covetousness.
5. Tristia Sadness- No idea
6. Gula Gluttony- No idea
7. Luxuria Lust- Mark 7:21 adultery, fornication.
These are from the Catholic literature. I can explain 5 with the verses below, but the other two, I have no idea why they would be called a deadly sin.
I will also say that there is forgiveness to those who repent.
The word repent is a military term and means to do an about face and retreat. However I will also say that if any of these five are a part of your lifestyle at the time of death, you will surely not make it into heaven.
Galatians 5:19-21 says;
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Mark 7 20-23 says;
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Romans 1:18-32 says;
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 ¶ Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
I am sitting here reading what preachershoe has said, and clapping. That was very good.

lust- sexual desire
pride- being stuck-up
wrath- getting angry
sloth- being lazy
gluttony- eating too much
envy- being jealous
greed- always wanting more
I don't know why they're called the 7 deadly sins, although I'm guessing it originated during Catholic scholasticism.
