Eggs, like rabbits and hares, are fertility symbols of extreme antiquity (very long ago); since birds lay eggs and rabbits and hares give birth (to large litters) in the early spring, these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth at the Vernal Equinox. Hence, bunnies are symbols of Easter for their breeding proficiency. Did you know a rabbit can become pregnant with a second litter while she is still pregnant with a first litter? And she will have each litter separately. This is known as superfetation.

since when does anything that Christian's use to celebrate their holidays make sense?
it's very hard to reconcile pagan rituals that are fully embedded within Christian practices with things that are logical
look at every major Christian holiday and look at how it's celebrated....
pagan symbols abound
Santa?
Easter Bunny?
Cupid?
...............ok, that last one isn't from a major as far as important to the religion holiday, but it still stems from a Christian holiday

The bunny as with the egg are fertility symbols. They seem like very appropriate symbols of Spring in my opinion. http://paganismwicca.suite101.com/article.cfm/ostara
