It is spelt "Lures", and they are pieces of metal, plastic and / or balsa wood crafted which you repeatedly cast out & reel in..... with the idea being that as you retrieve it (by reeling it), it imitates a sick or injured fish struggling through the water and fool a predatory fish such as a Pike / Perch / Bass / Zander / Walleye / Trout & Salmon, etc into thinking that there's an easy meal coming along......... and they'll chase it (if you're doing it right), and pounce on it. Sometimes it can happen so suddenly it nearly gives you a heart attack.
There are several different types........
Spinners, which are basically just metal blades mounted on a piece of wire, and the blade rotates on the wire as you retrieve, creating vibrations that attract fish.
Spoons, which are pieces of metal with a swivel at one end, and a hook on the other, and use a mixture of vibration & colour to attract fish. I think they got their name because before they were commercially available, people used to make them by nicking old spoons out of the cutlery drawer at home... drilling holes in them, cutting off the handles + adding split rings at either end for attaching the hook + swivel.
And my personal favourite the "Plug" or "Crankbait"..... these are the ones which most resemble fish.... though you can also get novelty ones made to look like a budweiser can + also ones that look like characters off THE SIMPSONS.
They're also available in many different actions...... some float on the surface, others sink, while others float on the surface... dive under the surface when you reel back in, then float back up when you stop reeling.
Here's a few examples of lures and what they do:

lures are artificial bait, they come in many sizes, shapes, colors, some have many moving parts and some few. Play around with them and you might find something that works one day, in one place, with one kind of fish.
I like to use spoons, they have worked well for me.
