It's actually called grinding at night. I had this problem and didn't even know it until I broke a molar and had to get a cap. Usually if you are very stressed or are under some other type ofAnxiety, stress or tension --
suppressed anger or frustration
Aggressive, competitive or hyperactive personality type
anxiety you can react while you are asleep---grinding your teeth. My dentist told me that the strength is harder then if you tried to bite something as hard as you could while you were awake. People don't do this on purpose.
In kids it can be because their teeth or not alligned correctly.
Some of the symptoms are headaches, toothache and teeth where the enamal has worn away.
The best treatment is a nightguard fitted by your dentist.
Talking in sleep usually happens during non-REM cycle (rapid eye movement). The same stressors that cause the teeth grinding could also cause the talking in the sleep. Your brain is somewhere between asleep and awake and often the talking may be related to a dream. Unlike grinding your teeth, talking in your sleep will not harm you. Sleepwalking is still another sleep disorder that could in fact harm you!!!
Hope that this helped

They are restless because they may have a problem. The grating of the teeth may be from bad teeth or bad bite.

the grinding of teeth = bruxism
It can be caused by several factors including: stress, mal-occlusion of the teeth, or jaw joint problems (TMJ). Many times it is done while sleeping and the person doesn't even know it's happening.

stress is often cited, however if that is the case then you'd expect everyone to have bad teeth.... if you are grinding see your dentist as they can make a special splint up to preserve the surface of your teeth

I do this and I'm not quite sure why but I can tell you that I do it more when I'm under stress. I used to talk in my sleep also but I grew out of that.
