but why not just use a colourant in the hair that conditions etc but gives a better grey shade or even an actual colour that looks natural? why turn your hair blue? it's just so bizarrely punk for a grandmother!

If clothing has a yellowish cast/shade to it, or fading, the blue will combine with it and cancel. The yellowing will disappear. Yellow + blue equals white.
Its a laundry trick.

My granny used to do this too, and I asked her and she said it made her feel good and covered some grey hair,I guess it was better than a friend of hers that used to use purple,her grandkids should be sooo proud!!! lol

I heard about it in a story a couple days ago, i thought it had something to do with laundry? but im not sure... i wasnt really paying much attention to the book. hehehe.
