actually, you will need braces. you could always get ceramic braces or invisalign if you are worried about the looks of braces. here is a link comparing all the different types of braces so you can decide which ones you should get.

I had the same with me. You basically have two options. The first is what I did. I had to get braces anyways, so with it, I have a herpst appliance. It connects the top and bottom jaw with things on the side that look like hinges on a screen door or something. You wear it for about a year and in most cases it is back to normal. That costs a few thousand. If you don't want braces, you can go the quick route, but it hurts a lot and costs more. That would be orthognathic surgery. I am pretty sure that is the name for it. They would break your jaw and reset it. That is the simplest way I can put it. They they will wire your mouth shut with brackets from braces with enough room for you to put a straw through. You would have to eat through a straw for about 3 or more months while your jaw sets. And that will cause you to lose about 15-20 lbs. because all of your food will have to go through a blender first. So I would definatly go with the braces route unless you have time for being on bed rest for about 3 months and you have a high pain tolerance.

It would probably be hard to close the space (called an open bite)without some type of tooth movement. One alternative to traditional braces might be Invisalign or invisible braces. They are a series of clear plastic trays a person wears 23 hours a day for tooth movement. They don't work for every case but nobody can really tell you have them in.

Consult with a dentist, and get referred to an orthodontist. Let them see your teeth and let you know what options you have. Let them know upfront how uncomfortable the way your teeth look makes you feel, and talk to them about a payment plan. They will work with you on that, they know that this trype of thing is expensive for most folks. Check with your dental insurance to see if you are covered for orthodontics, that will help you when it comes to how much you are going to have to pay. But they will put you on a payment plan, they won't expect you to pay everything right away. I hope this helps!

you may not nessesarily need braces, you may just need veneers, depending on how big the gap is.
