Why not answer a question rather than give some answer about something that totally doesn't relate to the question?

For example if someone asks a question about evolution being taught in public schools, why not give an intelligent response instead of carrying on about how the government should tax religious organizations.?

My only guess is that if people can't think of an intelligent answer for the question and are frustrated by it that they spew out some rhetoric that they have rehearsed over and over again.

My guess is also that those same people would criticize religious people for not thinking on their own, yet perhaps the religious person asked an orginal thought provoking question only to be answered with mindless rhetoric.

I guess the logic behind such responses is if you cannot come up with anything to say attack the person or change the subject, as both seem to happen in these situations.
What do you think?(O & attacking the person asking the ??is not a response)

I like cheese, do you?? LOL

Here is why I do it...when I think a question is stupid, I will give a stupid answer. When I think a question is a good one, I give a good answer. I also give stupid answer to questions when the answer could have easily been found on a search engine. Don't you find it funny that a person (obviously having an internet connection) would ask a question here such as "who was the first man on the moon?"

These are just a few of the reasons why I give stupid answers to questions.

super dude.

this won't be an attack, i was just amused and couldn't resist saying 'why do people ask stupid questions that have nothing to do with the answers?'

ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. anyway, the only reason you'd get worked up about irrelevant answers in a forum for questions regarding religion is if people are not giving you the answers you want or expect or agreeing with you.

this goes for christians, atheists, anyone. so, perhaps you could avoid this problem of yours in future by stipulating the answer you desire instead of becoming frustrated. thats if its not already clear by the question itself.

anyway, mindless rhetoric? classic. i would also tend to use 'mind-numbing drivel' as my standard phrase...

I think a lot of people answer questions just for the points not caring if the answer is serious or not. I have also seen a lot of questions that are not serious and just put up for fun, which I think is fine. I think a personal attack is flat out wrong. As far as criticism about religion I think some of that is out of fear. Just my opinion.

Dairy farming is a class of agricultural, or more properly, an animal husbandry enterprise, raising female cattle, goats, or certain other lactating livestock for long-term production of milk, which may be either processed on-site or transported to a dairy for processing and eventual retail sale. Most dairy farms sell the male calves borne by their cows, usually for veal production, rather than raising non-milk-producing stock. Many dairy farms also grow their own feed, typically including corn, alfalfa, and hay.

In the yahoo answers case if you answer a question you get 2 points i guess they just want to get those points.

But if in a conversation between two face to face or if nothing is gained for answering a question then i don't know why.

Because, sometimes, these questions are so stupid that all that can be givin are stupid answers.

"If man evolved from apes, then why are there still apes around" is a perfect example of stupid questions that deserve stupid answers.
Read and study, before you ask a question. Know what you are asking, before you ask it, and there wil be no more stupid questions or answers.

I agree!
But some do it for the 2 points!
