Proper() is a text function that converts the first character in a text string to uppercase and all other characters in the string to lowercase. For example, if you entered "john doe" in cell A1 and the formula =proper(A1) in cell A2, the displayed results would be "John Doe". Other related functions are upper() to convert text to uppercase and lower() to convert text lowercase.
