Quote KevinB:"they ate it." (unquote)
There is a scene in Fellini's film Satyricon where a very wealthy dead man's friends are left a share of his estate but only on the condition that they must eat his body... they do this.

Further quote from KevinB: "this is not crazy. we (as catholics) eat the body of christ and the blood of christ every sunday at mass. transubstantiation says it is indeed the body and blood of christ." (unquote)

I'm not insinuating his followers were cannibals, but it was in those days considered that ifm you nate the flesh of the enemy or indeed of a great person you would take on the qualities of the dead person his bravery or courage etc, it would have been done in that kind of spirit , making the dead person part of oneself.

Jesus gave them bread and wine and said this is My body and My blood. He also told them that when they eat of the bread and drink of the wine, they should do it unto Him.
As far as I know, it is only Catholics that believe that the bread turns into His body, and the wine into His blood once they are injested.
It was symbolic. At the time He gave them the bread and the wine, and called it His body and His blood, he had not been crucified and was still in His body and still had His blood.
For anyone that does not believe this is symbolic, I have one question. "Where do so many churches get Jesus' body and blood from, what store sells it, and how can there be so much of it, and why do the containers they buy it in say crackers and grape juice?
He did not pass them His arm and tell them to eat of this. (lol)

that is a practice that is unknown to Jews, and the story goes that Jesus was a Jew and his original fans were Jews, so if that was the case than I would say NO, his followers did not eat his body
I wouldn't have a problem with a gentle teasing of Christians except that at the point of his death they weren't considered Christians yet, but Jews
and I have a major problem with people postulating that Jews are/were cannibals

If you read the Bible, you'd know that Jesus was buried in a tomb for three days before he rose from the dead. Nobody ate his body.
Eating the bread during communion is symbolic. You eat it to remember him.
I thought all Christians knew this.

As a Catholic, I take in Jesus' body and blood every time I partake in Eucharist. However, the Apostles didn't take Jesus' body from his tomb, cut it up and eat it. In the Gospels it states that his body was in the tomb for three days and then he rose from the dead. His resurrected body was seen my many.

Communion is ritualistic cannibalism and a tradition born out of paganism. Just one of those things Christians do without really thinking about it.
But Jesus and the apostles, being Jews, would never have approved.

No, they did not literally eat his body... and if it is in a movie, it is sadly mislead by someone or something somewhere! There is a few places in the scriptures where Christ is talking to his followers while he prepares for them to take the sacrament... He did this before his crucifixion because it was then that Judas left the table to betray him... When he broke the bread, he is explaining to his followers / disciples that this is his body... (totally symbolic) not literally to eat his body, but to eat the bread in remembrance of him... and the wine was in remembrance of his blood that was shed for them,... as well as all people... that includes you and me.. He died for us all, but yet we do not eat his body,... we take the sacrament to remind us of his sacrifice for us!

No his followers did not eat his flesh & drink his blood, That was a type & symbol of Spiritually eating his word & taking his blood as an attonment.

Goodness, his "body" was his bread, in other words, eat of him and be like him. Take Jesus internally, become like Jesus internally. That's the basic idea, Christians aren't cannibals. It's symbolic!

that's absurd. the bible clearly states that the body of Jesus was NOT found in the tomb. he rose 3 days after the crucifixion and lives today in heaven.
