acne can be caused by many factors. Dry skin (dead skin builds up on skin causing acne), too oily skin (natural oils clog pores), irratation (such as shaving), diseases (such as rosacea), sometimes it's just hormones and it'll clear up on it's own as you age, some medications have been known to cause breakouts. The best thing to do is to make sure that your skin is stays as clean and moisturized as possible. Washing your face twice a day (in the morning when you wake up and in the evening before bed) is greatly recommended. If you're an athlete or sweat alot, I would suggest an extra cleansing to make sure the sweat doesn't clog your pores and cause acne. If your acne is extremely severe, than it maybe something more serious ( such as a hormonal imbalance or a cyst under the skin), then you need to see a dermotologist, who can either prescribe something for you or have a procedure for treatment.

People with oily skin tend to have this problem. This is normally caused by hormonal imbalance caused mainly by the hormone androgen. Every human pore has oil gland attached to it which secretes sebum(oil) to keep the skin hydrated and soft. This oil gland secretes sebum triggered by the androgen. In people with oily skin, they have too much androgens, as a result the oil gland becomes overactive and secretes lots of sebum that accumulates on the skin. Over time, the sebum becomes sticky and start clogging the opening of the pore with dirt and dead skin cells and eventually the pore becomes block. As sebum now cannot flow to the surface of the skin, it accumulates in the pore creating an oily enviroment for the acne bacteria to grow. This bacteria loves this no oxygen enviroment so it starts to grow and multiply and producing chemicals causing the pore to be enlarge and swollen. Situation is made worse when the white cells are triggered to attack the bacteria and pus is produced.

acne could be due to any of the following:
1. a hormonal imbalance (which is why, for a lot of people, acne arises right after puberty)
2. bad heredity - if your parents had acne, chances are you might get it too!
3. problems with you liver - junk that you eat may not be getting digested properly, so instead of excreting waste, it'll show on your skin instead (its gross, but trust me, its tru!!). plus, fat that isnt getting digested will probably form pimples; this is sorta obvious, because the pus underneath pimples is made up of fat (you could read up on this - www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pus
things like chocolates, sugar, chips, etc dont actually gve you acne, they just trigger whats already there. and trust me, just because someone has acne, its doesnt mean they arent cleaning their face properly!!

over time, junk food builds up in your liver. that means that if you have acne, any amount, you have a toxic liver. you must clear your skin from the inside instead of using topicals and antibiotics. they only get to the acne you can see. i know this because of getting an e-book for acne curing. i'm on my fifth day on going through the step-by-step program and half my acne is gone!! yippeee!!!

It's not genetic. sorry. Acne just depends on how well you take care of your skin. If you wash your face every day, bacteria will say "no way!". bacteria is what forms pimples and puss which is not wanted. just make sure your skin is happy and acne will stay away

Some times its just something you get from the dna of a family member or chocolate. I got mine from chocolate... and it is from going through a change like starting your period or your voice getting deeper.
