As long as he is qualified to do it then yes he can. My marriage may not have lasted long (we got married for the wrong reasons) but it was a nice ceremony and I think what made it even more special was that his father was a minister, he wasn't my minister but it was something that meant a lot to the man that i was marrying. So his father performed the ceremony. It was nice and something that will always be remembered fondly. If you want him to do it then I say you should let him.

If he is a judge at a town hall or a religious priest, pastor, reverend, etc. then he can legally marry you. If not you are out of luck; he needs a license to perform a wedding ceremony.

In most states the law is Ordained ministers, Judges, Retired Judges, Justice of the Peace, or someone of public office with the power to solemnize marriage.

However if you want your Uncle to preform the ceremony their are places on the internet where he can become ordained you just have to be sure it is legal in your area.

If your uncle is a civil servant(judge, justice of the peace, mayor) or an ordained "man of the cloth" who is licensed in your state to do such a ceremony, then yes.If not forget it. Some states give harsh penalties for impersonating people to do them.

Only if he meets the State's requirements.
In Ohio you must be ordained AND licensed.
Otherwise you must be an official such as a judge, mayor, JP, etc. And they can ony perform marriages in their jurisdiction. They cannot cross county & state lines.

Some ordinations aren't being recognized. Rep Saylor of PA is introducing a Bill on this very thing.

And no, ship captains can NOT legally marry a couple unless he too, meets the requirements. He cannot do it by virtue of being a ship's captain.

Depends what your state law requires of the Officiant. I know here in Florida, a Notary Public can perform. Check with the license office in your state.

If he is not an ordained minister, and needs to be one to perform the ceremony, http://www.ulc.net/ is a site which will ordain him on line. Check with your county. The ceremony needs to be registered to be recognized.

Your Uncle has to be approved by a state. each state has its own rules. If he is...The state he is approved in has to be the state were you are getting married. He can only marry in the state or states that have approved him.

If he's a clergyman of any description or a ship's captain, yes, he can perform your wedding ceremony.
Congrats, hope your special day is beautiful :)

As long as he has a licence and depending on the state, it has to be the state that he has the license in.
