It's not that hard to adopt. I adopted my son. Seek an attorney that deals with family court or adoption. Tell him that you would like to adopt your stepdaughter and proceed. It may cost, it all depends how much work is involved. If no one contests the adoption you shouldn't have a problem. You might want to consider calling your local DCFS and they can guide you also. They are there to assist you in cases like this. It took my husband and myself a yr before we finalized the adoption hearings but each State is different.I wish you luck and have a blessed day.

you will need to see an attorney first and have both parents permission unless she was abandoned by parent fro 3 years with no contact, call or letters.

You need permission for bio mom and dad...Or you can try and sue for custody,,,
