Happiness is not material satisfaction, but knowing the difference between good and evil.

When you separate the wheat from the chaff, you select what is useful or valuable and reject what is useless or worthless.

It doesn't mean going after everything we like, but being able to distinguish what is helpful or good for us from what is not.

An example would be smoking; happiness does not come from the high that a cigarette provides, but from realizing that quitting smoking will add years to a life, help give overall energy and improve your smell and attractiveness.

First off, you cannot really satisfy ALL your desires as newer desires keep cropping up.

Let's say you DO manage to do it, then life would be boring, unchallenging & tasteless... like chaff.

Satisfying your really important desires - the ones that give you the greatest sense of satisfaction - is like the wheat. Useful & healthy.
