Am takingg my pug to the vet but wonder if anyone knows what this can be. 4 times now eric the pug falls on his side, eyes roll and goes limp. Recovers a minute later and is very quiet. Happened 4 times.Is it fienting?
1) sat in car with new toy. Moderate excitement
2) after running up and down stairs.
3) After being sick from eating his food

Maybe this is feinting from not enough oxygen?

I am sure your Vet will find out the exact cause for your pugs collapsing

As he recovers well after each episode , i would not be overly alarmed .

;
You are right , at that particular moment,
your dog is temporarily ,deprived of oxygen ;
The reasons for that, can be one if a few things;

I can only guess what could cause this ;

he may be having epileptic fits
(there is medication, to control that )

he may have a failing heart
( medication will help a lot here )

or he may have swallowed his tongue
This happens occasionally, with short faced dogs
such as Pugs, Pekingese, Shih- Tzu etc

one of mine Dougal ,( a shih-tzu)
swallows his own tongue sometimes ,
( especially after , he has been very active )

it is worrying, but my vet says,
short of a * small operation ,on his uvula
( floppy thing at the back of his throat)
, there is not a lot can be done , ( except keep his airway clear )
so , now ,.....when it happens ,
I thump his back and up end him !!
and he is his normal bouncy self again , in no time !!!....

I hope this helps , to reasure you ....

see what the Vet says,
and please, let us know how your Pug is getting on
all best

He is having or has had seizures... Not a good sign... medication can control this to some degree, but his liver will eventually get used to the medication and the seizures will kill your dog ! Give the little guy the medication and love him until he gets bad... and for God's sake have him put to sleep before he gets to the point of suffering ! Check with your vet just to be sure, but I am fairly certain these are going to be incurable !!!

It sounds like a seizure of some kind. Or yes, it might even be fainting. Though I've never heard of dogs doing that before.

Hopefully the vet can figure out what's going on with your dog.

Good luck!

Sounds like epilepsy, and he's having seizures. Medicine can help this. Also, like you're doing, try to keep track of what he's doing just before it happens. You could see a pattern of maybe too much excitement, too much exercise, something like that. Keep a record of this, and when you take him to the vet, take along what you've written down about what triggers the episodes.

It could be, they're a short nosed breed, one thing to get the vet to check is that he doesn't have a small object stuck in his larynx. Its very rare, but it acts like a plug and can temporarily interfere with their breathing, it looks a bit like a fit.
Good luck.

It's probably narcolepsy, we did this in a psychology lecture last week. Dogs can get over- excited and collapse in the way you describe. Check out at

Maybe an epileptic fit?

Whatever it is, I'd hurry up with that vet visit - make sure the little guy is ok.
