If he is otherwise healthy and no other changes have been noted like weight loss or personality change etc... And you can not connect it to eating something different like a treat or getting into the neighbors cat dog food.
Then yes I would try diet change. But I would go to the vet and get canned ID. Nothing else if you can not find vet in area that carries it I would try Plain canned chicken flavored Iams not the tender bites just the ground up type of canned food.
You will need to feed him 2-3 small 3 oz cans a day in meals. SO like one in morn in at night one before bed maybe. If this is going to help it will do so in 1-2 days. You will not have to wait for weeks like you will for medications. If this works great. If not in 2 days he will need vet check and probably meds. It could be irritable bowel and they may put him on prednizone or other anti inflammatory unless they find parasites. This has worked for many of the cats who come to stay at our facility and the client is amazed at how something so simple can sometimes be the answer. No guarantee but cheap and what do you have to loose but 6 small cans of canned food. NO DRY.

is it possible that your cat has eaten some of the food that has been recalled? Even if you don't feed him one of the brands, if he's an outdoor cat, it's possible that someone else could have fed him one of the recalled brands. If this is a possibility then take him to the vet. I've read some of the questions on here about cats that have had the recalled brands and some cats have had very minor problems (like diarrhea etc.) but if there is any chance it could lead to something more serious, i would take him to the vet straight away.

If nothing in his environment has changed, chances are good there is something wrong with his insides. And even more so if he is acting tired or otherwise doesn't have any strength.
If he doesn't return to normal by tomorrow at the latest, take him to the vet. And bring a stool sample.
Good luck.

I think that changing his food is MORE likely to give him digestion problems. If you think the food is ultimately a bad match for him, then choose another brand and stick with that, but don't flip back and forth.
You might want to consider stuff like:
1. Is he an outdoor cat? Maybe he ate a weird plant or grass or something
2. Could he have eaten something else in your home? Maybe gnawed on soap or trash?
3. Did anyone give him "people food" lately?
I don't know, maybe it is even related to digesting hair (as in hair balls) or something. Unless it is explosive or something, just see if it goes away in a few days

Indoor cat? Outdoor cat? Do you hydrate your cat with milk? That's a no no. Cats don't have the digestive system to break milk down, this will create diarrhoea. I have an in/ out cat who hunts profusely and if he has killed and eaten voles or moles his waste is soft. Otherwise I feed him dry cat food and water and his stool is normal. If it continues take him to the vet.

It can depend on the individual cat. But usually most vets will recommend keeping a healthy dry food available, and wet food offered once or twice a day max,in the right proportion for the cat.

I had the same problem with my cat several years ago. Take him to the vet to be sure there is nothing seriously wrong. In the mean time be very careful that he doesn't get dehydrated. I had to switch my cat to a perscription food and she hasn't had any problems since.

There are many things, some are fatal viruses, others are protozoan such as toxoplamosis, giardia, cryptosporidium, coccidia... then there's campylobacter, salmonella. It could be sudden onset food intolerance. There are many things it could be, you need to take him to the vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
