My Docksie is a toy-toy. is double papered and a real sweetheart, but it's constant barking is very annoying and my neighbors are complaining and creating strained relations. Is there a bark coller that one can purchase, and will it help to train him from barking after a period of time. Really need your assistance.

Generally, the best way to solve this problem is to find out why the dog is barking in the first place. Are they barking out of boredom? Out of loneliness? Because there is something outside that they feel the need to warn you about? Once you know the root cause, you can work to determine the best solution to stop it. If they are bored, give them something to entertain them - a stuffed Kong toy, or a food-dispensing puzzle. If they are lonely, try crating them when you are gone, or turning on the TV or radio, or hire a dog walker to come let them out in the middle of the day. If they are barking at people passing by, close the window shades so they can't see outside.

You can also start introducing the "no bark" or "quiet" commands. When the dog starts barking, say quiet or no bark - usually your voice will startle them and they'll stop momentarily. When that happens, give them a treat and praise them. When the dog is sitting quietly and not barking, praise them and give them a treat as well. Repeat that often, and they will soon learn that being quiet gets them a treat.

As a very last resort, you can purchase a citronella collar that sprays a blast of citronella at the dog. The unpleasant sound, taste, and smell will deter them from barking. If at all possible, avoid the use of shock collars and especially debarking.
