I read brown rice was healthier then white so yesterday, instead of buying white long grain like I normally do. I bought brown long grain. I followed the instuctions put extra water and extra time, but stll after more then a hour and a half it was still hard like uncooked. I had to throw the whole thing away. I was ticked because I also lost all the things I put into it like ham. Now since I bought 3 bags how can I cook it so it is soft like when I make white?

Throw away all unused brown rice and go to the store and buy long grain white rice. Should have stuck to what worked.lol

Hi Lina,

I make it all the time like this: 1 C brown rice and 2C water. Bring to a boil, then cover and set to simmer. (Make sure it is simmering).Put your timer on for 45 minutes. Then it's done. We love it topped with pintos (from a can, drained) and melted cheddar cheese, and Frank's Red Hot sauce. Good luck, and it is WAY better for you!!
