I have a laptop that has Windows 98 on it. I want to install a new version of Windows. Do I need to manually uninstall Windows 98 or when I install the newer version, will it automatically remove the old one?

Just put in the disc and they would give you options if you want to install the newer version in a partition or format the older one and install the newer one.

you can try, after windows 98, you can install windows 2000.
and no, you dont have to unninstall windows 98, because windows is like a family. you can go up. but not down, it is possible to go down, but its gonna be harder, i got xp, and its easy for me to upgrade to vista, because like i said, its easy to go up, this is what i learned from mike, he is a student in my computer repair class. he seems like he knows bout computers for a long time.

depends on a lot of things, all how you set it up, if you want a fresh install it has to be booted up from the start before windows loads up

It will automatically remove the old operating system, but you need to be sure that your hardware can handle the new operating system..

Good luck,
