There's a lot of people here saying the same thing. If youre gonna steal things ( limewire = theft, like it or not ) you need to be smart. I have some sypmathy, I fell into this particular trap a few years ago, pre Limewire, pre Broadband... and it cost me dearly.
In the end I had to format my c: and start from scratch. I paid for a copy of Windows 3.11 ( still widely used at the time ) and a copy of Norton Anti virus ( ? I think it was norton, may have been Mcafee ) that I got cheap from a legitimate auction and started over.
It can be very difficult to remove these deeply embedded problems, even with the use of newer software I still had big problems last year with an "ibis toolbar" and "alcan" something or other that got onto my system and refused to budge.

I'd say, if you have nothing of major value on your system then a format and reinstall system flushing is probably the best answer. You say "all our files went" so I guess you have nothing of value left... Now is the time to format BEFORE you start filling your PC with files you might loose again.

If you insist on using limewire ( I cant stop you ) then get yourself a good quality antivirus and USE IT every time you download anything, BEFORE opening the file... Scan it for problems, and remember... You don't know better than Peter Norton and his pal's.... if it says it's dodgy... DELETE !!

If you really want to try and save your system... You'll need to borrow a fully paid for and genuine version of Norton or McAfee (anti virus and also system utilities) from someone and try running them. Dont be tempted to try downloading them and then getting a product key from "keys and serials dot com... The companies that produce this stuff are way ahead of you in protecting thier products... Your IP address will flag up on thier system as soon as you go on line, as will the person who's product key you are trying to use... and if they feel like it, a copyright case could be brought against you. . . . it DOES happen ! (added to that you wont be able to fix your system).

So anyway, stop using limewire ( there is no victimless crime ) and try a good sys util' to solve your roblems first, failing that, flush with a c: format and start again.

You have to remember that Limewire is only a facilitator to download mp3 or video. The actual stuff you download comes from any computer connected to the internet and also using Limewire. So, your PC is open to any malware or virus going and most anti-virus software will not pick it up until you come to play or run the file/s by which time it could be too late. You are also uploading to other computers whilst connected to Limewire so you may unwittingly pass on viruses to others.

It has a chance of being limewire, Limewire works fine if you have a anti-virus installed as it will locate the virus (if you have one) and will delete it or will tell you where it is for you to delete. We have used limewire for quite some time in our family and we never has any problems.

Meanwhile you should reboot your computer, to do this you will need to turn off your computer and when the first screen come up it will be one of the F's, most of mine run of F11 or F9 try them and if it doesnt work once press it continuosly

Could well have been Limewire but you should have your virus software up to date and on at all times. I've been using Limewire for two years with no problems although Norton has caught some virus/spyware.

If you've lost all your files then it's probably a good idea to just re-install windows from your product recovery CD. It should autorun when you turn on the power and will restore your machine to its factory settings.

You will have to re-install all your software, windows updates etc but on the bright side the computer will work.

If you've downloaded a lot of files through limewire you probably have a virus. Viruses are very common on Person to person file sharing systems. I'd reccomend doing a system restore, under accessories > system tools. Go get yourself a good virus protection software (Mcafee) then stay away from Limewire.

Hello, sorry to hear about your computer crashing, however it was down to having "Limewire" on your PC that has done this,
this website is well known for having virus's and other nasties.
you could try system recovery,, unlike system restore this program will restore your computer as it was when you first brought the computer, you must first unplug the printer, scanner, webcam,,,, but leave the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, then click on All Programs and choose PC tool's then click on system recovery, and follow the on screen instructions, try and backup any files on a removable CD-ROM disk that you might want to keep first for system recovery will delete anything that you may have installed after buying the PC. once you have completed this simply reinstall the printer, scanner, webcam,
and before you copy the files back that you have saved scan for virus's first, so that you don't reinfect your PC again.
this option might save you money, before resorting to having to trust a repair shop to fixing the problem. Good Luck

You're going to have to repair your OS installation....XP I take it? Your installation is corrupt...to say the very least. Go through the repairing process, and then, download Adaware, Spysweeper, Avast antivirus, AVG antivirus (all free) and then run all of them on full system scan, and delete EVERYTHING they bring up as suspicious. Anything you download off of LIMEWIRE, add to a little file, and scan the entire contents, everytime you add something new in there.

Keep ur anti-bad-guy software updated, with the virus definitions, and you should be ready to roll.....

If you don't know how to repair windows...ask.

Looks to me like you downloaded from limewire without an active anti virus program. Your gonna have to completely reinstall windows and make sure the next time you use limewire you have a good anti virus (i suggest mcaffe or norton.
