Good question. Evangelicals follow, among other doctrines, the doctrine of Scripture. That is, biblical inerrancy and Scripture Alone- they believe that the bible is literally from the lips of God's mouth.

Many challenging views are founded on the notion (and a body of evidence) that the bible has been altered again and again over thousands of years, the differences between the Bible and the Holy Torah notwithstanding.

So evangelicals do not put much stake in the thoughts of theologians and scholars from Aquinas to Descartes - but oddly they are protestant, so apparently Luther and other European and American reformists strike a sweet note with them. I have known a few evangelicals who speak pretty harshly about Judaism and Catholicism, which seem to me closer to the original bible than protestant faith with its rebellous origins, but then I'm not an authority on religion so I will let someone else cast that stone. They don't go as far as Jews For Jesus, who are trying to assimilate or convert the Jews to Christianity (more than a few people find this movement to be repugnant and it has been described as a cult).

Evangelicals also put alot of stake in revalation and the rapture, they are sort of obsessed with that part of the New Testament.

I hope this helps- I am not aware of any new scripture written by/ for evangelicals as that would be in conflict with their strict doctrine of scripture/ biblical inerrancy. If such scripture exists, that would be strange indeed.

Evangelicals use the same scripture as Catholics do-The so called Old and New Testaments. However, they interprete it in different ways.

There are three main features that delineate Evangelical Christianity from Catholicism:

- The primacy of the Scripture (Sola scriptura)
Means all authority is from the BIble. There is no place for tradition or the authority of men. This has led to the literal interpretation of the bible as scientific truth.

- Justication by Faith Alone (Sola fidei)
That human beings are justified by faith in God alone. There is nothing we as humans can do to justify our salvation. Evangelicals consider the gap between man and God to be so large that it cannot be breached by our own actions

- Grace Alone (Sola graca)
Only grace from God allows men to be saved. Our own decisions are part of the story but this is after we receive grace. We are only secondarily responsible for our salvation-it is after we receive grace.

Evanjellyspoons is a welsh dancer of the ancient art of jelly wobbling which ends in the eating of the said jelly in unison with singing Men of Horlicks. SO THERE!!!!

Can I just add that the original texts are the important texts, but mainly the Bible is clear on doctrine as it self supports and links consistently if you look into it and don't just get argument fodder from web sites. Young's literal is an interesting Bible.
