They'll give you what you need. It won't be much. It's just so the other people are witness to the christening and parents naming you the Godparent. If you feel nervous when you get there, just listen to what they say and focus on the child. You'll probably have to go to a couple of meetings before the day of the christening. If it's Roman Catholic, they'll probably tell you the duties of being a Godparent... which is basically to help raise the child and help in teaching the traditions of the Church.

You'll be fine. Have fun with it. It's supposed to be a joyous occasion. =)

There is no reason for you to give a speech, anything you have to say will be pre-scripted within the context of the church service. With most christenings that I have been to, the godparents stand in the front of the church with their backs to the congregation (if it is a public christening) and just say the answers to the minister. You will promise to protect your niece and teach her to be Christian, etc. If you want a minister could give you a copy of the service so that you can read it ahead of time and be prepared. Don't be nervous, this should be a wonderful day d experience for you and the baby.

Hi!

I've been through this before, so I can offer a little insight (or at least what they did at my church).

There was no speech or anything like that. The godfather and I just had to say "I do" or something like that when we were asked if we would be her godparents. Other than that, it was just holding the baby when she was baptized and then lighting a candle (which my goddaughter, who was 2 at the time, wanted to blow out for her happy birthday!).

Don't worry! It's a very simple service and you'll do great!!

No need to worry! All you gotta do is shave your back and wear an extra pair of underware. The words will just tumble forth from your lips in such an eloquent manner that you will be the hit of the ball.

You really don't need to DO anything...the priest/pastor will ask if you will watch this child grow in the church and help them along the way and you answer yes.....thats about it...no speeches or anything. Relax...its reletivly painless...if a bit long:)

It's a popular Romanish rite. All you have to do if you are a Roman Catholic member is none other than to fulfill the traditions. Anyway, this rite is unbiblical.
