Well i just got back not to long ago and when i was over there some of the best things i got from people were from an elementry school. This class had signed up to be my "soldiers angel" they sent girl scout cookies, some soap, a brand new news week magazine, some pringles, one kid even sent me his toy car, (i still have it :) ) also the whole class sent me some home made cards. that was probably the best care package i got.
Also some tips for sending things. If you send cookies send like chips a hoy or something that is in a long tube and empty a pringles can and put the cookies in there. It keeps them from getting crushed. also a lot of the bases in iraq have Post Exchanges now or someplace where soldiers can purchase things like soap and deodorant.
A good website (well as a soldier i liked it) is
http://www.soldiersangels.org/heroes/index.php
At that site the soldier can say wht he prefers and you can Adopt the soldier and send what he has requested or prefers.
On another note thanks for the support to the soldiers :)

Having been in Kuwait on more than one occasion, things that I liked were fairly simple.
Decks of cards. You have a lot of time to sit around and do nothing, and you can never have enough decks of cards. We got plenty of poker decks, but never had enough pinochle decks. Small tablets of paper and mechanical pencils are good for keeping score, too.
Canned food. I got 3 cans of ravioli, and we felt like we had a great meal. You would be surprised how much a can of ravioli or spagetti-os would mean.
New books. Most of the books we had were older. Many of us would have killed for a book in the NYT Best Sellers list of paperbacks.
If you have a PS-2 laying around, and have a game that maybe came out in the past, oh 3-6 months and don't play it anymore, throw that in. I know we took our video games with us, and we only had what we brought with us. I know for a fact that if some First Sergeant or Gunny stood up and said, "Hey, I got a copy of God of War 2. Who wants it?" a fist fight would erupt for it. I know, GOW2 is only about a month old, but just an example.

The latest IPOD Nano 8G, loaded up with some great music, plus a Solio (portable solar charger for IPods);
Some books on military history;
Some really good toiletries: shower gel, shaving gel, sun block and cooling gel for tired, sweaty feet. Also "mossi-bands" which are these green velcro-y wrist bands that last for a week apiece (you can even sleep and shower in them) and keep the bugs off.
St Christophers' medals for everybody, regardless of their religion/creed.

A gift, sentiment item, I sent a pocket watch to one, and a cross necklace on a long chain so it would hang down as low as there dog tags did..

Well, I would put some nice clothing, a warm blanket and some money. I would give them at least $100.
