This girl I work with I hardly every see her eating apart from cuppa soups. The problem is she is always feeding everyone in my office. She will go to the shop and bring back a packet of crisps/potato chips and give them to whoevers in the office and say that she bought herself one too, but you never see her eat them. She will also leave chocolate on your desk, and makes out she is being really nice by doing it. Yesterday she bought me a hot chocolate. Sounds ungrateful but I didn't feel like it and don't drink full fat milk. I asked her why she did that and she said "You're meant to say thank you". I ended up pretending to drink it and then throwing it out when she had left. Arghh. Its really annoying as I eat enough junk without her trying to keep me overweight. I know it sounds really petty, but it is starting to annoy everyone in the office, not to mention its weird. How do I get her to stop doing it? I have heard this is something people do who have an eating disorder.

Hi,
it is possible she is doing it to hide the fact she's not eating....or to distract others attention from her own eating...and you are right that it could be a sign she has or is developing an eating disorder. I have had an eating disorder the past 3 years or so and I have done that in the past the odd time, not continuously. Do you think she looks underweight?
It could also be her diet coping mechinism...whereby she buys the high calorie food, which she isn't allowing herself to have but can help her not feel so deprived, and then feels good again by thinking she's doing a good deed and giving it to others.
It may not nesscarily be an eating disorder at all, but just the fact she thinks she is being kind...However it's very hard to know. If you are a close friend to her why not talk to her in private ....don't sound like your accusing her of something and remember if she has an eating disorder and you confront her, this can be very emotionally distressing...so take it easy if you decide to approach this way.

I think you should just keep an eye on her and her eating patterns. Why not even suggest you both go out for lunch and see what happens? At the end of the day, if she has an eating disorder the chances are that she already knows what she is doing is not normal...and so she may not be ready to seek help. If you have other friends at work, why not ask them what they think about her actions.

If your annoyed at her forcing the sweet foods onto you, why not say you are on a diet yourself or trying to cut out that type of food but say thanks for offering!

Try not to jump to conclusions..perhaps she eats more in the evenings after work and doesn't fancy eating much during the day. It's good that you know the traits of a possible eating disorder and it's great that you are so aware...but just keep a level head about it.

best of luck!

it is possible that she has an eating disorder or may just be a really nice person (i know sometimes people can be too nice). Just ask for a quiet word with her and try to tell her how you feel. Dont let anyone else hear because she'll feel asthough every1 has been talking about her behind her back.
Talk to her and just her know you are quite worried about her, as she is feeding every1 else and not herself. Be a friend and a good listener. Hope this helps X

There seems to be something wrong here, have you ever thought that shes trying to feed you lot up to make you put weight on or give you bad skin, so that she doesnt feel so bad next you or maybe she is abit of a loaner and needs to buy peoples affection, I personally have been associated with 2 different people who have done the same thing, for these reasons, pretty sad eh.

It does sound like 2 different things to me but both boil down to one thing. This girl sounds like she is vry low in confidence.

She's not eating properly so id obviously conscious of her self image and thinks that if wshe looks better people might like her more and by being thinner she'll look better.

The other thing is what a friend of mine used to do back in my school days. She used to try and buy our friendship. She would buy ius food at lunch and bring in snacks from home to make us happy and for a time it worked but then in the end everyone thought she was just weird.

Sounds like she could be on the brink of one. Maybe she s trying to associate herself with food so it seems she s comfortable around it when in fact its the opposite. It sounds really annoying but try to be polite yet firm when u refuse her drinks etc. Just say"No thanks I 'm not thirsty/hungry right now, ask me next time so u don t waste your money" Good luck.

yes it does sound like she has an eating disorder .. i have a friend who does this .. she wont eat herself yet likes to fatten everyone else up ... bizarre... just ask her politely to stop doing it , tell her u are on a diet, maybe ask her for diet advice see what she says and watch her reaction ... by dropping subtle hints she may realise that u know she has a problem ...

this sounds like the actions of a person who has a disorder...or really trying to be nice!

if its a disorder then it means she has an impulse to buy the food she craves for, but feels to guilty to eat it, and so gives it away! i wouldnt be surprised if she has the impulse to eat some of the junk and then feels guilty and has to remove it!
