The Bible doesn't tell us where unbaptized babies go. There was a belief of a place called Limbo that babies would go to. This was supposed to be a happy place but not heaven. They could not go to heaven because of original sin, but since they had committed no personal sin, they would not go to hell.

This was never an official teachng of the church, but one that was taught by some priests, nuns, and religious people anyway.

The Pope recently came out and said just that...that Limbo is not a teachiing of the Church.

We do not know what happens to unbaptized babies, but we do know that God loves them and wherever they are is where a loving God would have them.

When a person becomes a Christian they have to take a free will choice to do so. Babies are not accountable so first of all Baptism is not real because they don't make a choice to be in Christ and secondly 13 is about the age of accountability. Awareness before that time may not be matured enough to understand the choice. Of course some people never come to the age of accountability.

We as adults must become like children. That's an interesting quote.

I don't know much about the Pope. But, the Bible doesn't directly speak to unbaptised babies. But, we do know a lot about the character of God. Who He is and what He loves. I think that, based on what we know of God, that He makes provision for unbaptised babies that pass away. You may find some people that believe they go to hell. But, I just can't reconcile that with the biblical description of God.

Baptism is an public demonstration of faith.
The baptisms recorded in the Bible were always performed to persons of an age where they could make conscious decisions.Even Jesus was in his thirties at his baptism.
The concept of infant baptism is not a Bible teaching, nor is the concept of a fiery place of torment such as 'hell'
The Bible clearly teaches that when we die we go back to the ground from which we came.We do however, remain in God's memory and await a resurrection.

There is no Biblical example of Baptising Infants in the BIBLE. Christ said they could come unto HIM. Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
1. HEAR - Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
2. BELIEVE - In Mark 16:16, Jesus said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
3. REPENT - Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4. CONFESS CHRIST - 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
5. BE BAPTIZED - Romans 6:3-4 do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
6. CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL - Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
Send me a note if you have questions. I am anxious to hear from you. There is NO REASON for an infant to need baptism. They have NOT SINNED since they have no knowledge of sin at that point in their life. Have a Great day.
Thanks,
Eds

The babies that were not baptized go to limbo because of original sin. Limbo is the outskirts of heaven, but not quite heaven. It is, however, different than purgatory. Quite sad really. A way to resolve this is anybody can perform a baptism on the baby, as long as they have chrism oil and say the proper words of baptism. Many very religious people do it as soon as the baby is born. We actually just learned about this in my religious studies class last week, the same question was asked.

All babies have original sin from Adam and Eve stealing the forbidden fruit, this is the reason that babies have original sin and need to be baptized. Vatican II resolved this issue in 1963, I am sorry its not what everybody wants to hear, but it is truth.

I LEARNED THIS FROM AN ORDAINED MINISTER AT A JESUIT COLLEGE IN NEW YORK.

Friend I am not catholic, there is no place in the bible that says a baby is to be Christened, A person is to be baptized by complete immursion in water only after they have repented of their sins, Therefore a baby does NOT need to be baptized, They will still go to heaven.

rocky ro.... is very right!!! No where in the Bible does it say to baptise babies, it says to get baptisted when u accept Jesus into your heart. Its a choice that has to be made and babies cant make choices like that yet.

I dont think it says that anywhere, but i have know God for a logn time and I know that he would never let anyone who have not had a choice to choose Him go to hell. Maybe, who knows, he gives babies a choice when they pass away (cos u know, the state of mind we are in here on earth eg: child/adult is not necassarily what we are like when we are in spirit)

God would never let innocent children who did not have a chance to follow him, go to hell, whether they were baptised or not.

when King David's baby with Bathsheba... an out of wedlock child died... David said 'I will go to him but he will not come to me'... implying someday they would be joined but in heaven to many

I think the Bible is more silent on some of these issues than we would like to think and this is an area I would throw myself on God mercy and trust Him for

(sending limbo into limbo was a good call on Benedicts side... there is no BIblical support I can see for limbo)

They go straight to heaven. Jesus said in Matthew 18 that adults need to become like children to get into heaven. Kids go right to Heaven as they are God's ideal model of humility.
