I have two dachshund puppies and am unsure about if I should crate them together or not? Any advice from anyone with experience in this would be greatly appreciated!

I would also like to add that we started crate training one puppy when we first got her and just got the second puppy earlier this week. They are great together and sleep outside of the crate together. We only crate when we aren't home which is rare... but the first puppy is fine with this. They both love to go in and out of the crate. Lay in it together and nap in it with the door open. I haven't shut the crate door on them yet nor have I left them alone in it. I was just wondering if buying a second crate was necessary... I'm a shop-a-holic and marketing targeted dog lover, so more likely then not I will buy another crate! LOL I just wanted to know if anyone else had any experience with this and what they thought.

No - They should each have their own crate. A crate becomes a dog's den and "Personal" space. If you have 2 puppies in the crate, you'll have to have a larger crate, which defeats the purpose of crate training. The crate should only be big enough for 1 dog to stand, turn around and lay down. If you have a bigger crate, the pups will designate 1 area for sleeping and one for going potty.

We have two dachshunds as well. They proved to be a real challenge until we put them both in one crate. After that, it was only a week before they were trained to go out as soon as they left the crate each morning. They keep each other company in the crate and out of it now. Ours were 3 months old before finally got the crate... wish we had done it MUCH sooner! We have had several dachshunds, but this was the first time having two puppies at the same time. They are brothers with exact opposite personalities. Now, they are being trained to the "invisible fence". Doing great with it too!

I would recommend not to crate train them together at first. I have two dogs and found it to be a challenge.

A crate should be a santuary, a place where the dog can go to get away from stress, etc and if their sibling is the stress and they share a crate that could pose a problem.

I also would refrain from putting food and water in the crate, it causes a lot of problems with potty training.

Good Luck

particular you may crate 2 or greater canines to a minimum of one crate, however the real question is however in case you ought to. To be elementary, as doggies, i might say no. many people use crates as a gadget in rest room preparation. in case you maintain looking injuries, how do you know which of the doggies did it, it rather is not often cautioned to have 2 canines so comparable in age as they're going to surely compete with one-yet another. Having them jointly in this sort of constrained area for any length of time will definitely exacerbate any struggling with and could bypass away the dropping canine devoid of potential of get away. i might advise 2 crates and consistent with possibility have them next to a minimum of one yet another, or a minimum of interior of sight, so as that the doggies can nevertheless see, scent and hear the different. while they are older, you've got a single great crate for vehicle journeys etc, which should not be a undertaking. And as long as they are actually not detrimental, it would be achieveable so you might bypass away them out of their crates, or bypass away the crate doorways open so as that they are able to apply them in the event that they desire. That way they are able to be jointly or aside. i don't know how certainly you may police it inspite of the undeniable fact that it particularly is in all possibility a good concept which you prepare the canines not bypass into each and each others crates as those crates are symbolic of dens which wild canines/wolves could have and so it particularly is organic that there could get up some component to source guarding.
