My dog is 4 1/2 and can tell if it is bad or good weather, she gets all mardy if it's bad and when it's good she's all jumpy and licking me a lot, is this natural?

Yes, I can always tell when bad weather is coming from my pets. Some don't care, but others flip out and I know.

It's one of their leftover wild instincts.

Many do. Remember after the big tsunami that hit Indonesia a couple of Christmas back...they commented how few animal bodies were found...they left the area.

On a personal note, I had a pomeranian that was always agitated before a storm came. One time, there was a tornado a few miles away that we never knew about, but she was hysterical during that time.

Seeing as I each so often can, i might think of animals word an identical form of signs and indicators. those can comprise the easy changing from vibrant to form of watery, a upward thrust in wind and different subtleties i do no longer comprehend a thank you to place into words. I extremely regularly sense a thunder hurricane's on the way 5 or ten minutes in the previous it arrives.

Of course it's natural. Why wouldn't it be? It is actually pretty cool that she can tell the weather. Too bad cats, birds, hamsters, etc. don't have as good of a smell as dogs do. Dogs are intelligent creatures. One of the best animals for scenting things out. So of course I think it's normal.

Oh definetly, yes!!! Horses will sometimes jump the fence the morning that a tornado hits that night. They will go to where they feel safe & return later.
Also if you listened to the news about the Tsunami, they said there were very few animals killed or even close when it hit shore. They all went to very high ground, hours & hours before & survived safely. The same is true with hurricanes.
Trust them, they know more than we do.

Yes! Usually when it's a bad storm (tornado, flood, earthquake, etc.) it's only humans that get hurt, with the exception of animals that are locked up and can't leave.

It has nothing to do with the sense of smell. They can sense a drop in the barometric pressure.
