It really depends on your age and what you like to do. You need to go someplace where you can carry on a conversation. I like to be different and would suggest a picnic in the park.

Generally the person asking should decide, and as far as where, you should go some place that you would go if you were not on a date. You don't have to choose the swankiest most expensive or hardest to get reservations for restaurant in town. Go some place you've been before and you know has good food. I think dinner is a good first official date activity after breaking the ice at a coffee shop or something of the like.

Somewhere where i can talk and get to know them without interferance. I have a multi stage night where they or i can peel off without problem. Lunch, then a walk in the park, then a Movie, then somewhere to go to talk about the movie, dinner. Then you Ask if they have time for the next item, not really seeming like you planned it ahead.

Try and do something that you've never done. like going to a new resturant or you can do the norm and go the movies and grab a quick bite to eat. I think it depends on the intensity of the new relationship. If your not quite sure about them and do the norm, but if not, try something spontaneous (spell??).
