I have 3 indoor cats, and I gave them all flea baths individually. And now they're all hissing and growling at each other as if they're total strangers. I just am very confused. Does anyone know why they're acting this way?

Yes, they are extremely agitated right now. Separate them until they calm down. It may take a day. (If their 3rd eyelids are showing, that is a clear sign of stress).

cat sense by smell. They hate anything that don't smell like it should, or was. I got a new couch and the cat was angry, peed on it. Now it 's OK. Took time. Rub your hand over the top part of their tails on their backs a few times then rub your hand over the cats face and back. Their scent is released thru the top back part of the tail closest to the butt. Right where the tail connects to their back. You can re rub their scent on them and the other cats will be happy again. True they do get stressed at a bath. I don't flee bath anymore. I use front line flee stuff. One spot . On my pets and bath problem time is over. Mine go in and out. No flee problems as long as you use it. Once a month only from April to Sept. The cheap stuff don't work good. But front line I swear by it and I have 3 pets. If the cats sleep on a blanket next time you give them a bath. Rub the blanket over them to put some of the smell back on their fur. You won't be able to smell it but they will. Give it a try and good luck.

Cats know each other by smell and not by looks. Bathing them has changed that so they don't know each other. Give it some time and they will be back to normal. They are hissing and growling because of being upset about the bath.

I see this kind of behaviour in dogs too. Those who are stinky gang up on the one who has already taken a bath. Another weird behaviour is the one who just took a bath gets so excited after and struts himself literally in front of the other dogs. I guess there is jealousy there. For your cats you have to reassure them that whoever gets to be bathed first is not the favorite; that they all are favorites. You can vocalize this during the bathing session.

Cats rely a lot on sense of smell. They no longer smell the same, so they don't fully recognize each other. You can try using a few dabs of vanilla extract under each one's chin and at the base of the tail. This will make them smell the same to each other and can help reduce friction until they get their normal scents back.

Also, some flea baths can be harmful, so please check with your vet before using one in the future.

It is extremely doubtful to me that any of your kitties enjoyed their baths. NOW, their roomies stink like the dreaded bath! And, they are blaming each other for the terrible experience.

Cats have an extraordinary sense of smell--their roomies no longer smell like they should!

This might not make sense on the surface but think about it a couple minutes!

maybe because thier scent changed per the bath so they cant tell the cat!! as cats use scent to remember alot that might be why oh and if you gave them heartz flea you better wash them with a regular soap fast cause it kills cats!!
