as a cop i find that wierd. If i pull someone over, I like to know the speed they were traveling. If i didnt know the speed of a vehicle, and I knew he was speeding, or looked like he was speeding, I could stop him, and tell him to keep it down a few knotches and be carefull, then say have a nice day and let him be on his way, but I would not issue a citation for a guess speed.
this must have been a rookie cop, out to impress his superiors or something.....LAME!!!!!!

In Kansas, it is NOT required by law to show the radar speed to the driver.
In your case, it depends on the situation.
If the speed limit is in town and a posted 20 or 30 mph, and the cops been sitting there watching traffic for any lenght of time, he can tell if your generally speeding. That means you were going faster than the other cars had been going (if it's obvious).
If he's driving south and the speed limit is 65, and he's locked his cruise control on 65, and your also south bound behind him and you catch up to him pretty fast, your going more than 65.
Otherwise, I agree with the others, take it to court. On traffic infractions (speeding), you don't have to hire an attorney so it won't cost you anything to fight it.
I know cops who have written tickets and lied in court over it (pretty pathetic in my opinion... ). I've told friends to fight it since generally, if enough people fight them against the same cop, the Judge will get a clue there's actually a problem w/t officer.
Also, in KS, basic speed ticket also reads "to fast for conditions". If your in an area with a lot of kids playing ball and your wizzing through, that's to fast. If it's raining hard and visibility is limited and your passing, it's probably to fast, etc.

I had the same thing happen to me in California. The officer estimated that I was speeding since my car had Georgia plates and he figured I would just pay the fine rather than stay and fight it. He was wrong.
As a former cop, I've never heard of giving a ticket without an exact speed. If you haven't been to court on it yet you should plead not guilty. If the judge doesn't dismiss the ticket and you have to go back to court to state your case, be honest about the situation.

I'd definitely fight that one. I have never heard of such a ticket or a cop who would write it. Was this in the USA?
Having the right to see the radar is false. I have heard that argument 1000 times on the side of the road and have never allowed anyone to see the radar, it has been brought up in court at least a dozen times and each time is disregarded by the judge. Never lost a ticket yet.

As far as being legal, I dont know. What I do know is in most states if the officer says he clocked you on radar doing a certain speed, then you have the right to ask to see the radar. If they refuse or if they write a ticket showing you were going faster than the radar shows then you have a good case to take to court. They can not refuse to let you see the radar.

Enter a plea of Not Guilty when you get before the Court and argue that you could not have been speeding, etc. etc. etc.
But if you already went to Court and paid the fine - you were screwed!

Fight that one in court. If he has no proof on how fast you were going, then he cannot give you a ticket.
