they can not stop you, but you do not want to leave the debts unattened as they can hurt your credit. Set up a way to make payments while you are in Australia. Do not be 2 days late on a payment as it will hurt your credit. try to pay more than the minum. even if it is only 5.00 and pay on time. Since it it from country to country the best way maybe to set up a pay pal account with a bank here that you can transfer money into and make payments out of that bank account. Then another in Austrailia that you can pay your bank account here from . You may have to put your mother or fathers name on the one here because I am sure pay pal will not let you have 2 accounts. that way you are not paying major fee's for western union, or money orders.

unpaid student loans that go into default can affect your credit in the future - it is best to pay on them/ have your parents or family with your money continue to pay back your debts while you are out of the county. leaving them will not make them go away- just makes them worst when you return to the States.
It can make it difficult to get a job or a car/house loan when you return. think ahead....

Why don't you try to call your creditors and explain the situation. They would much rather know your intentions and any reputable creditor will appreciate your call and work with you. Good Luck

Contact all of them and tell them what you plan to do. Tell them to agree to a payment plan that will work for you, even if it means they will get nothing for a year. If they do not want to agree to this, then tell them, "Fine, in that case you will get nothing," and pack up and leave.
They should realize you cannot push a wet noodle uphill.

Once you leave the country, all financial obligations are released. Throw that payment book away and happy trails!
