Was the pain caused by an injury? Or is it something that gradually worsened. Without knowing it's difficult to answer your question. The medical industry has a very limited approach to taking care of spinal problems. Unless the problem is caused by a growth I personally would not opt for surgery. I've experienced back pain for years. When I saw an orthopedic surgeon he said there was nothing he could do for me. Many people have a dim view of chiropractic care, but in my case it works. It all depends on your situation on whether it would work for you. Usually once you have a back problem your probably never going to get rid of it. The most you can hope for is getting some relief from the pain. Good luck and hang in there.

Do not worry MRI scans are excellent and if there is something going on they will pick it up. It doesn't necessarily mean anything bad - I had one after a car accident 6 years ago - they are just better scans for the doctor to see what is going on

I'm a nurse and don't worry. The doctor usually orders the test for a more in depth look at an area. It could come back normal or find the source of your pain, either way it's helpful on your behave. Look at it from this point of view, " I will finally get some answers and the correct treatment for my pain, after all it is painless." Take care and try not to worry, it will be OK.

I've never heard of an MRI being painful, so I don't think you need to be afraid. They give MRIs for all sorts of reasons now, they don't have to be serious. Didn't your doctor didn't vocalize what he suspects the problem is?
Good Luck...I have neck and back pain a lot and it sucks!

I had a similar situation happen 2 me....I woke up Feb.15,2003 with my right arm from shoulder to tips of my fingers----Paralyzed. I had to go threw all kinds of tests with no answers to what was reason for my paralize so far and 5 days a wk physical therapy. The dr scheduled me for an MRI to see if i had M.S....AND YES I was terrified. Testing was not done in town I lived in so I had to go to town about 45 mins southeast and even worse I had to wait 2 weeks for my apt. That was the longest 2 weeks of my life. Terrified of what the results were going to be; I even had my stepsister {who
lived an hour northwest of me}drive me to have my MRI done; in case results of MRI were not good. Fortunately nothing came up on MRI...hopefully u will have good news too. Unfortunately the fear of your results is not going to go away....until MRI is done and over---with good results. March 14, 2003 when I woke up; my right arm was fine. Never did figure out what problem was??? Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo....???

Yes I would be extremely scared as well, but look on the bright side, it might just be something relatively minor. Good luck to you. I hope it all turns out ok for you.
