Does ur temp guage play up as well? if so then its the voltage stabiliser at the back of instrument panel, the part itself is usually held on byone screw but depending on car etc it can either be an easy job or a ***** of a job, depending on how easy it is to remove instrument panel.

2/ It could be the guage itself

3/ It could be the tank sender unit

if neither is at fault then it could either be a wiring prob, bad connection. Or it could be the printed circiut board which is like a plastic shhet with a printed circuit in it.

There is a quick test which involves using one of the wires at the tank unit and shorting it out and if the guage was ok the guage would o to full. I wouldnt reommend u trying this as it has been years since I have did this and on older cars. If the guage still reads same or empty then it may be the guage.

well... it could be anything from the sensor in your tank to the display itself... the only way to find out for sure is to go to a service... though my bet is the indicator itself is broken, not the sensor in the tank...
And don't listen to other telling you it's french and that's why it breaks down.... I so hate it when people underestimate french cars....

It's French, and thus is destined to fall to pieces.
