The answer is pheromones. Pheromones are scent glands that are found on a cat's forehead, around the mouth, the paw pads and anus. By rubbing its forehead on you, the cat is actually scent-marking you. The scent produced by the glands on the forehead also calms the cat, and is mainly used for marking a cat's inner nest territory. So it has a two-way use.

The scent glands on the toes secrete pheromones that are used for marking a wider territory (by scratching on posts or any object.) The pheromones at the back end are produced during excitation/anxiety, but is also used to identify the cat's litter (as in litterbox.)

The kitten is showing it's affection. In fact it likes you so much that it is using the glands on the top of it's head to leave a scent that other cats can smell that says it owns you.

Cats are equipped with glands, located on the forehead, lips, front paws, and on their flanks and rears, that secrete pheromones. Pheromones, which are substances produced by animals, act as a form of chemical communication. Cats produce several different pheromones that send various signals and affect a number of different behaviors. One well known function of pheromones is to provide information about the cat's reproductive status and receptivity to potential mates. Pheromones also are used to mark objects and territory and some signal comfort and familiarity. Pheromones are unique, like human fingerprints, and their deposition serves as a calling card of sorts.

Pheromones secreted by glands on the face seem to have a calming effect on cats.

Is it more of a rub or is the cat bumping against your head? A rub generally means he is marking is scent on you. A bump is him telling you he loves you and telling you that you are one of them

It particular does! while your cat head butts you, he's marking you as his property (because of the fact he loves you many!) Your cat produces pheromones, head butting helps cats to unfold their cat heady scent throughout you. it is likewise a demonstration that they choose to be puppy! Kneeding is a few thing kittens do to their mothers to stimulate milk pass. As they strengthen older it turns right into a convenience factor. Your cat is rather happy and mushy the place it rather is at, and so very grateful which you stored him!

It's marking you with it's scent firstly. Cats have scent glands on their heads. Although you can't smell it, other cats can.

Secondly, kittens are like toddlers. They don't want to be held and restrained! They want to play! So I'd guess your kitten wants to play.

its just showing you affection in a cat way. Cats like to be in control though which is why it wants you to let it go.

It probably just wants you to sit down so it can lay on your lap. My kittens do that all the time and when I pick one of them up they want to get down. But, when I'm sitting on the couch watching tv or something they just come up and sit on my lap and they enjoy it when I pet or brush them.

He's rubbing his head on you to put his smell on you and make you smell like you belong to him. He owns you now. Lucky you!
