The camera is a FujiFilm FinePix with 6x optical zoom. The memory card slot door says SmartMedia on it. The old card is a 16MB and it says FujiFilm on it and it says smartmedia. This new memory card is a sandisk 1.0 GB. They both differ in with, length, and thickness. I would appreciate it if someone would tell me how I could use this new card with my camera (without having to buy a new one). Thanks.

Fuji cameras usually use XD film cards. It sounds like you bought an SD. They differ in physical size and cannot be used interchangably. You need to go buy a different card that is an XD.

Sorry to tell you this, but it sounds like you bought the wrong card. If the cards have a different shape and size, then they're not the same. Most Fuji cameras use the xD card format. This is different from SD, which is used by many other cameras.

your best bet would be to take your camera with you to the store, and let them find a card that will fit your camera.

They are right you bought the wrong card and you can't use it. Definitely, you need to buy a new one. If you want to get rid of that 1.0GB card, sell it to your friends who use this type of memory card for their phone cam, digital cam and digital camcorder. Also, you can return to the shop where you bought it and beg them to have it replaced with the right one. But return it in original packing.

And how do you propose to get a large card in a small slot? Whittle it down?

I don't think you can use the card.
