I often come across humourous responses to christian questions, yet they are taken offensively. I recently came across a "Dress-up Jesus" figure. I appreciated its satirical quality and have ordered a couple. Do you think it is funny or in bad taste?

Has nothing to do with self-deprecating humor! Personally to me it is just plain blasphemous!

Most humor of that type isn't coming from other Christians, that's why it's not funny. For example, the person who made the Jesus dress up doll isn't doing so to honor Jesus, but to make him into an internet game or a magnet set for your fridge. That's just not funny to someone who believes that He is God.

I appreciate the humor of the Simpsons, and their numerous jabs on Christians through Rev. Lovejoy and Ned Flanders. But, the Simpsons make fun of every group and there are some boundries on their fun-making. Self-deprecating only works if it's by other Christians. And then, it's meant in jest.

Well, I'm not a Christian, but I thought the Jesus dress up was funny. I know a few Christians that thought it was too. But I think where you are going to get confusion is that, I don't think a lot of these people even know what self-deprecating is. (No offense really.... but many in here don't seem to even know what Humor is! So they're not going to know what self-deprecating is)

Well, the hardest (my opinion) virtue is to be humble.

So self-deprecating humor is very difficult for anyone.

But self-deprecating means making fun of yourself.

This doll is making fun of Jesus.

He may have appreciated(for its funniness) it or just ignored it.

But people are fallible and will likely not appreciate it in the same manner, since they do not have Jesus' humility and all encompassing abilities.

So, if you are sensitive to other's feelings this may be considered bad taste to the right person.

It is tough to be saint-like.
